1. Examples of four rules
-Keep your hands and feet to yourself
-Raise your hand to get my attention
-When others are talking you must be quiet
-Treat others the way you want to be treated
2. Examples of two procedures
-During a fire drill, quickly and quietly line up at the door. Wait for the teacher to lead you outdoors. The last person
in line should turn off the lights and close the door.
-When you get to class in the morning put your backpack and coat in your cubby and go to your seat to begin your independent
reading.
3. One example of positive reinforcement
-Putting a sticker on a good spelling test
4. One example of negative reinforcement
-Tell the students if they clean up their books before the bell rings they can go to recess but if they don't the won't
go until they finish cleaning up.
5. One example that requires punishment
-A student pushes another student while in line. When they get back to the room the student must turn his card from green
("good") to yellow ("warning") and loses the opportunity to receive a special prize at the end of the
week.
6. One example that requires reward
-Students who pass in their homework, completed, all week receive three bonus points on their next quiz.
7. Two examples of interventions
-"Follow through": A student kicks another student while doing individual work. The teacher re-explains the
rule about keeping your hands and feet to yourself. The teacher then follows through with the consequence by having the student
turn a card and then moves the student away from his table to an offset desk.
-"Contract": A student is having a hard time staying quiet during independent work. The teacher and student
together develop a contract where she agrees to not talk during independent work all week long in exchange for five minutes
to talk to her friends on Friday afternoon.
